Although SonicLoveNoize and Seltaeb have some incredible works that still remain long downloaded, you really couldn't say they trump the newest released product. The sheer QUALITY of BB's material, and we're talking mixes from audacity to master -- all the layers -- to my knowledge (and I've done deep dives through more than a few mega.nz links) is unprecedented. No other band has what the Beach Boys have. You look at major bands -- Elton, The Band, The Monkees -- there's NO FANMIXERS there. In some cases these fanmixers were stretching just to get enough material to fill a single disc. TONS of filler.
Personally, if I owned these masters, I would do a 15-25 disc DUMP of all of this unreleased (1966-1971) material. Redefine the fanmixing fandom like the UNSURPASSED MASTERS SERIES did in '99. There wouldn't be a single music rag, blog, or website that wouldn't automatically give it JIGGY FLOWS-like press. You wouldn't have to read about BB's music remixes on dead blogspot websites. Real press would EAT IT UP. Film and TV placements would follow, moving the narrative past the tents, bedroom years, and shittily-written Mike Love Rolling Stone articles. With so little effort, EVERYTHING could change.
EVERYTHING.
And all because of fanmixers.

ReplyDeleteTruly excellent as always! SMiLE is such an excellent project for this level of care and attention and polish. Thanks for your efforts!
ReplyDeleteIs there anywhere that you accept donations or anything like that?
Unfortunately, taking donations is what would turn this innocent fanmixing website into a bootlegging corporation! Thanks for the offer though, but you listening is payment enough for me!
DeleteAn update to Jiggy22 Presents Smile has been released. The update will be applied automatically when you re-download Jiggy22 Presents Smile. The major changes include:
ReplyDelete>Replaced "Prayer (Alternate 1966 Mono Mix)" with a higher-quality source (from Hawthorne Harmony II)
>Updated the localization files
Thank you for a wonderful blog. Found you thanks to Butterboy's blog! Best wishes, Paul
ReplyDeleteThank you for this public service to fans of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys, it is much appreciated. One of the mystery titles of the band and Brian's work has been 'The Bedroom Tapes', a series of demos mostly recorded in Brian's home studio between 1968 and 1974. Is there any chance of you putting out a version of what this anthology would be like if it were officially released? Who else among public bloggers of Beach Boys archivists has attempted to compile such an anthology?
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you! That article is perhaps the most damaging piece of literary media to have been published in regards to fan expectations regarding the band's vaults. The author, while he was invited to listen to a few select tracks by Alan Boyd, invented pure conjecture in most regards, with some selected tracks just straight up not existing. "Song to God" is pure bullshit invented by known pathological liar Stan Shapiro, and has been outright rejected by Stephen Desper. "Pattycake" was a misunderstanding of a segment of a Brian interview from 1973. Brian NEVER wrote a song about Pattycake. There is no second fairy tale. It does not exist. "Is Jack Rieley Superman" was mentioned in one book 40 years ago and if it was a real composition, it was never recorded. "Burlesque" exists in the vaults as a 1977 backing track under the name "Beach Burlesque." "You're Riding High on the Music" and "Grateful are We for Little Children" were written, but never recorded. I know that there are some fantastic and WEIRD recordings currently residing in the vaults, but they aren't what you'll find in that awful article. All will come to light in due time, trust me.
